wind stone katakuchi

this katakuchi, a bowl with a spout, is a vivid synergy of earth and fire 𓏲

crafted from white stoneware clay and brushed with a wood ash glaze that melts in the firing, creating unique strokes and sprinkles across the surface.

the texture is slightly rough, inviting a deeper presence through touch. light, mineral, and calm, it reflects landscapes shaped by wind and time 𓂃 limestone cliffs smoothed by constant air, desert rocks polished by sandstorms, high-altitude stones bleached and lightened.

𓏲 inside, a glossy glaze creates a smooth surface for whisking matcha or hojīcha.i created this pitcher through an ancient way of handling ceramics: raw wood-ash glazing. i apply wood ash directly onto the unfired clay, so that glaze and clay meet before the first firing and enter the kiln together — one firing, no bisque stage. in the heat, wood ash melts and merges with the clay, forming natural, earthy, one-of-a-kind surfaces.
