i crafted this series from black stoneware clay and glazed solely with wood ash. it's deeply satisfying to me – no coloured glaze, no decoration, just clay, ash and heat revealing this union.
 
the surface stays soft and matte, interrupted by tiny crystalline formations which shine remind me of obsidian sprinkled across the surface.
over time, the interior gradually absorbs traces of teas, developing its own subtle patina. for that reason i recommend dedicating such bowls to a single tea. i especially love it for shou pu-erh, which deep, earthy character resonates beautifully with the black clay and wood ash.
