Deepening Your Wheel Practice

Service Description

Have you already practised the basic movements of centering and pulling, but want to go further in your practice or find yourself returning to the same difficulties? This course grew from my wish to offer guidance beyond the very first steps and support you as you continue developing your own pottery practice. You don’t need to be an advanced thrower or feel confident with the basics. You may have recently completed an introductory course or have been practising for some time – the important thing is simply that the movements of centering and pulling walls are already familiar to you. Keeping the group to four gives me space to pay close attention to each person’s practice. We won’t follow a rigid programme or all make the same objects. Instead, I’ll shape the classes around what each person brings and what feels most useful for the group. OUR FOUR MEETINGS 01 · Returning to the foundations We’ll revisit centering and pulling, observe individual habits and identify where difficulties arise. This class is dedicated entirely to learning: we won’t keep any pieces, but will cut them open to see and understand what is happening within the walls. 02 · Developing form We’ll explore different ways of pulling and shaping the clay, working towards more balanced walls and more intentional forms. We may practise opening or closing a form and begin keeping selected pieces. 03 · Going further This session will be shaped by where the group is at. We might work with larger amounts of clay, throw off the hump, repeat forms, or explore techniques connected to each person’s individual direction. 04 · Trimming and refinement We’ll trim the saved work and explore how the foot, edges, proportions and smaller finishing choices can bring a vessel together. Dates: Tuesdays, 3 · 10 · 17 · 24 November Time: 18:30–21:00 Group: Intimate group of 4 people Price: €295 Clay, firing and simple glazing by me are included for up to four finished pieces.
