i shaped this chawan from dark stoneware clay and carved the surface by hand.
for the texture, i'm inspired by traces found in nature – tree bark, river banks, soil, and sandy shorelines. i brushed the glaze unevenly so it settles into the carved lines, creating a surface that feels tactile and alive in the hands.
the glossy glaze, enriched with a touch of wood ash, is inspired by misty forests after rain – damp bark, soft moss, and the landscape feels rich, layered, and full of depth.ayered, and full of depth.
